Lily pond to bloom

THE Henty Lily Pond, Pakenham, draft master plan is open for public comment prior to adoption by Cardinia Shire Council.
Located adjacent to Duncan Drive the pond is a valued natural asset of Cardinia Shire, containing a diversity of both local flora and fauna.
The council’s biodiversity officer Karen Muscat said major attractions of the pond are the lilies that were planted in the early 1900s for commercial harvesting.
“The pond is of continuing historical significance to Cardinia Shire,” Ms Muscat said.
“Unfortunately, due to drought conditions, the health of the pond has deteriorated over recent years.”
Calls from the community for the pond to be rejuvenated were evident during the council’s community consultation last year.
Hard copies of the draft master plan are available for perusal at the Cardinia Shire Council municipal offices, Henty Way, Pakenham, and at the Pakenham Library, John Street, Pakenham.
To comment on the Draft Henty Lily Pond Management Plan, residents are to send their submissions to Cardinia Shire Council, Draft Henty Lily Pond Management Plan, PO Box 7, Pakenham, 3810 or mail@cardinia .vic.gov.au.
Submissions will only be accepted in written format and close at 5pm on Friday 9 April.
