Tamlin on top

PAKENHAM resident Tim Tamlin has been appointed to the top job at the South Gippsland Shire.
Mr Tamlin will step down from his position as Greater Dandenong’s engineering services director to take on a new venture – South Gippsland Shire chief executive officer.
Mr Tamlin, 45, said he was looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
“I’m looking forward to building a new partnership with the Gippsland community,” he said.
“I’m hoping to work with the council to understand the community needs and aspirations and work with the organisation in realising the community goals.
“I want to lead the council to meet those needs and take Gippsland from good to great.”
At the age of 25, Mr Tamlin became the youngest person to have been appointed senior technical officer at the State’s transport department. Nine years later he moved out of State Government when he became CEO of road contractor, RPC Roads.
He joined the Greater Dandenong council as manager in 2001, before being appointed as director of engineering services in 2005.
Mr Tamlin will end his last day, Monday 26 October, at Greater Dandenong with a council meeting. He will take up the top spot at South Gippsland on 4 November.
During his time at Greater Dandenong, Mr Tamlin said he had thoroughly enjoyed working in such a diverse community.
“It has so many different cultures and it’s been great working to meet the different needs,” he said.
“Working in local government is so dynamic and at times challenges, but it’s great being so interactive with the community.”
