PAKENHAM’S spring racing carnival got off to a strong start with 1655 racegoers turning out for the Pakenham Football Club Caulfield Guineas Day.
The race meet at the Pakenham Racecourse on Saturday attracted many sporting identities from around thee district who were keen to celebrate the end of the football and netball season.
Cranbourne trainer Ray Cleaver recorded wins in the third and sixth races in a day that proved tough for Pakenham trainers.
Pakenham Racing Club sales and events co-ordinator Michelle Tones said the club was pleased with the success of the day and the crowd’s behaviour.
“The weather was on our side, the track performed well and everyone had a great time,” she said.
“We look forward to growing this day and the competition further in 2010.”
