THE Narre Warren Fire Brigade is gearing up for the next bushfire season with plans for a catering trailer now complete.
Fourth Lieutenant Damian Baker said the station ran the catering service for firefighters battling long duration incidents in the area.
“We can provide hot food from a barbecue, drinking water and coffee and tea,” he said.
“The catering unit is always well received by hungry and fatigued firefighters.”
The brigade received more than $4600 towards the catering trailer project from Krispy Kreme Fountain Gate after a fundraising event back in May.
The station also received a grant from the Community Safety Emergency Support Program which provides funding to assist CFA, SES, Life Saving Victoria and Volunteer Coast Guard and other eligible emergency service volunteer organisations buy additional vehicles and equipment.
The grant covers costs for three quarters of the estimated project cost, with members from the brigade raising the remaining amount of money.
According to Lieutenant Baker, the catering trailer plans were now at CFA approval stage.
“Once the plans are approved, building will commence and the unit will hopefully be ready for the 2009/10 bushfire season,” he said.
