Cameras speed in

A new speed camera will be installed at the intersection of Princes Highway and Fitzgerald Road in Hallam.A new speed camera will be installed at the intersection of Princes Highway and Fitzgerald Road in Hallam.

NEW speed and red light digital cameras will be installed in Doveton, Hallam, Cranbourne, Hampton Park and Lynbrook next month.
The new cameras come after the announcement of an expansion to the state’s fixed and mobile speed camera network enabling police to catch speeding drivers who continue to risk life and licence.
According to police, the intersections which include Monash Freeway and Heatherton Road in Doveton, Princes Highway and Fitzgerald Road in Hallam, South Gippsland Highway and Thompsons Road in Cranbourne, South Gippsland Highway and Lynbrook Boulevard in Lynbrook and Hallam Road and Coral Drive in Hampton Park, have a recent history of fatal or serious collisions.
The locations of the new intersection camera sites are based on a Monash University Accident Research Centre analysis of intersection collision history, which ranks intersections based on location, traffic volume and collision history.
The mobile speed camera network will be bolstered by an additional 3000 hours a month, 1000 of which will be used by police to target trauma and road fatality hot spots.
The intersection of Princes Highway and South Gippsland Freeway in Hallam will also receive digital upgrades.
Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay said drivers who obey the speed limit had nothing to worry about.
“I know speed cameras are not a popular topic with drivers, but the simplest way to avoid a fine is to avoid the crime,” he said.
“Speed cameras save lives and they’re here to stay.”
