Heritage saviour to the rescue

GEMBROOK MP Tammy Lobato is urging local organisations to apply for grants in the 2009/10 Victoria’s Heritage Grants Program.
The grants provide funding for the repair and conservation of heritage places and objects, management of community collections, interpretation of heritage places and objects and local government heritage studies.
Ms Lobato said that, to date, 84 community groups had been supported to help conserve landmarks and objects.
“These grants have assisted local museums and historical societies to document, manage and preserve their collections,” she said.
The emphasis of the funding program is on projects that provide community benefit.
To be eligible, places and objects must have statutory heritage protection on the Victorian Heritage Register or be covered by a Heritage Overlay in the local planning scheme.
Further details about eligibility and assessment criteria are available from Ms Lobato’s office on 9796 1987 or at www.heritage.vic.gov.au. Applications for the grants close on Thursday 6 August.
