Safety message comes out ahead

PROTECT your head and reap the rewards.
That’s what the police and Cardinia Shire Council officers are urging children to do as part of the Streets Ahead program.
Children who wear a helmet when they ride their bikes, scooters and skateboards now have the chance to win a prize for doing the right thing.
The council’s active children’s officer Kate Beveridge said children not wearing helmets was a hot issue in Pakenham following recent talks with staff from four primary schools.
“Pakenham police recently spoke to all grades 5 and 6 students from Pakenham Consolidated, Pakenham Hills, Pakenham Springs and St Patrick’s Primary Schools about the importance and legal requirement of wearing helmets,” she said. “These kids now have a greater understanding of the responsibility they must take for their own safety.”
Children spotted wearing a helmet can win one of 10 family passes to YMCA Cardinia LiFE as well as Streets Ahead merchandise.
