EXTRA smoking bans will be implemented at Casey Hospital following World No Tobacco Day on Sunday.
No tobacco use of any kind will be permitted on the Kangan Drive site including car parks and the hospital as of next week.
Signs to promote the new tobacco-free status have been placed at the hospital.
The move follows other Victorian health services such as Melbourne Health, Alfred Health and Latrobe Health Service also encouraging a smoke-free environment.
Southern Health’s head of general medicine Professor Don Campbell said the benefits of being smoke-free were invaluable.
“Giving up smoking reduces your chance of developing heart disease, emphysema, lung cancer and other serious smoking-related health problems,” Professor Campbell said.
