Tap into savings

CARDINIA Shire Council’s water efficient showerhead exchange for residents is back due to popular demand.
Already 2129 showerheads have been exchanged by Cardinia Shire householders since council joined the scheme.
Council Waste Education Officer Ella Boyen said water efficient showerheads were one of the cheapest and most effective ways to reduce household water use.
“Water efficient showerheads can save you up to $60 per year on water and energy bills,” she said.
“Water efficient showerheads also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as less hot water means less energy required to heat your water.”
To take part in the scheme, residents can bring their old showerhead and a recent water bill to the council offices in Henty Way, Pakenham.
They will then be given a new water efficient showerhead free of charge.
“The offer is available to all residents of Cardinia Shire, as part of our commitment to reducing water usage across the shire,” Ms Boyen said.
“Using a water efficient showerhead can save around 40,000 litres of water per household per year. This is enough water to fill a backyard swimming pool!”
