A CLYDE North student is getting ready to jet set to Canberra to meet Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
Hillcrest Christian College Year 11 student Eden will be exploring local councils and the State Parliament later this month before heading up to Canberra in March, after gaining a spot in the City of Casey’s Australia Day Study Tour Awards.
The 16-year-old told the News he was looking forward to meeting the Prime Minister, and taking part in a tour around Canberra exploring the High Court of Australia and the Australian War Memorial.
“I’m still surprised that I get the opportunity to meet Kevin Rudd,” he said.
After completing VCE, Eden said he wanted to study politics at university. The Australia Day Study Tour Awards are presented to students in Year 11, or equivalent age, who have been nominated by their school or employer for a demonstrated interest in, and a reasonable understanding of, politics, community events and issues.
The nominated students are short listed for interviews, which are conducted by a community panel and up to 10 of them are then selected for an Australia Day Study Tour Award.
Principal Daniel Pampuch said it was an honour for Eden to be selected as one of only nine other students from around the City of Casey.
“To meet the Prime Minister of Australia is a great privilege and Hillcrest is pleased to have yet another student representing the school this year,” he said.
“Eden deserves this opportunity and he has worked hard; Hillcrest is extremely proud of him.”
