Gold-letter win at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

Perfect weather conditions greeted a field of 53 pairs who lined up for battle in the 2026 Men’s Foursomes Championships at Garfield Golf Club.

Taking out the title and breaking a long run of outs was long-time member Glenn Wells, who along with Michael Anthony carded a round of nett 66 to finish more than two shots ahead of Shannon Stocco and Matt Davey.

Stocco provided the best single moment of the day, scoring a very rare eagle two on the par-four 12th.

A final score of nett 71.5 was required to get into the prizemoney.

Just eight birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 16th giving up five of those.

Adam Milnes was dominant in the overflow stableford event, backing up his 20 points in Thursday’s twilight event with an amazing score of 48 points, the best total in many years at the club.

Milnes won by 11 shots from Chris Guymer; who was next best with 37 points.

Bernie Clark is a lady golfer in good form and claimed another Saturday win with her 41 points.

The week kicked off with Monday’s public holiday which saw a field of 120 turn out for a game of stableford with the four grades up for decision.

Best in for the day and winning the D Grade event was Jahvis Mateariki with 40 points whilst Jason Hoghton took out the B Grade event with his 39 points.

Dean Jones won the A Grade event, also with 77/nett 39 points and Trevor Guille took out the C Grade event with his 38 points.

A final countback score of 34 points made the prizemoney cut.

The day’s highlight was provided by Dirk Meyer whom holed out on the par three 16th hole.

In a great day for scoring a total of 22 birdies were achieved for the day on the par threes with the new 13th giving up the eight of those.

Congratulations to Cam May who scored her second ever competition win by winning last Sunday’s stableford comp with 43 points.

A final score of a miserly 31 points to a countback made the prizemoney cut.

Nick Gray scored a pair of nearest the pins on the 4th and 8th holes whilst Tony Power did likewise on the 11th and 13th holes.

On Thursday golfers encountered grey skies, a few showers and a cold day for that day’s stableford event where a countback round of 33 points made the cut.

Best in for the day and breaking a run of outs was Damien Needham with a great A Grade winning score of 73/nett 42 points, defeating an unlucky Greg Noonan by a countback with his round of 78/nett 42 points.

Paul Kaye returned to form finishing third with his best for a while, scoring 79/nett 41 points which also included a nearest the pin on the 13th hole.

Ash Graham, enjoying a good burst of form, took out the B Grade event with his total of 84/nett 37 points.
