Blackout hits shopping centre

SHOPPERS, diners, and movie-goers were left in the dark after an external problem caused a blackout in Fountain Gate Westfield Shopping Centre last week.
The power failure occurred at 8pm on 15 January. Lights were dimmed inside stores, and movies at Village Cinemas stopped in mid-screening.
Marketing executive of Fountain Gate Melissa Ephraums said the Westfield Shopping Centre staff had no control over the problem. “Our power company, Tru Energy, said the blackout was caused by an external cause, but they haven’t determined what yet,” she said. “It could have been a tree falling on a power line or a motor vehicle accident that took out a power pole, we don’t know.”
Lights were back on at approximately 8.30pm.
