POLICE are urging residents in fire-risk areas within the Cardinia Shire to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
Senior Sergeant Trevor Teer of Pakenham police said there were extra police from Greater Dandenong and the City of Casey on fire patrols within the shire.
The Bunyip State Park fire, which is still burning within containment lines, is believed to have been started by an arsonist.
Police are also investigating several fires lit by an unidentified arsonist in Officer recently. Sen Sgt Teer said residents should be aware of suspicious activities near their homes.
“Contact 000 if it is happening immediately, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if it has happened recently,” he said.
