Pets on parade

LOCALS can take their furry friends for a grand day out at Saturday’s Cardinia Shire Pet Expo.
A pet parade, petting zoo and a best-dressed pet competition are among the attractions.
With veterinarians and stall-holders from the pet industry on hand, every question about responsible pet ownership can be answered.
The council’s senior local laws officer Brooke Ranken said the expo was a great opportunity for residents to learn about responsible pet ownership.
“This event, which is free and open to the whole community, provides new residents with the opportunity to come along and get their pet registered as living in the Cardinia Shire and micro-chipped for a discount, if this has not already been done.
“Veterinarians will be on hand to provide dental health checks and administer discounted micro-chipping for just $20 per dog or cat.”
The pet parade begins at noon, with registrations being taken from 11.30am.
Local laws officers will also be on hand for new pet registrations or renewals.
All dogs and cats must be registered from three months of age and newly registered pets must be micro-chipped.
The Pet Expo will be held in the grounds of Cardinia Council offices in Henty Way, Pakenham from 10am to 2pm. There will be a sausage sizzle on the day.
People attending are asked to bring their dogs on leads and their cats in cages.
