Double delights for Dougy

GARFIELD GOLF

Plenty has happened since the last newspaper report from the Garfield Golf Club just prior to Christmas last year beginning with two golfers landing hole-in-ones in the month of December.

Jeremy Payne scored his first ever ace on the eleventh hole on December 22 before Doug Amos received a belated Christmas present; scoring his second career ace at Garfield on the fourth hole on Saturday December 27.

Well done to both gents on their great achievements.

Veteran golfers were also busy during the break with a game of two-person ambrose stableford being held at Morwell.

Two Garfield members, Phil Barling and Mick Pfieffer, had the bet result for the day winning the C Grade event with a great score of 52 points.

Garfield will host the next Vet’s event on Monday 19 January, with a stableford event commencing at 8.30am at a cost of just $30 including lunch.

This week’s star golfer was definitely Mat Van Der Horst when he came out on Monday and shot 69/nett 42 points which included an eagle on the first and four par three birdies for his round.

On the same day Rich Paton scored a very rare eagle two on the par four 18th.

Other good rounds for that day were shot by Robert Harley with 72/nett 40, Richard Perry 73/nett 38, Ross Mitchell 75/nett 38 and Scott Milnes with 71/nett 37 points.

A field of 121 turned up on Thursday for a game of single stableford with Darren Stanton winning the A Grade event with a score of 75/nett 41 points.

Andre Van Gent had the day’s best result winning the B Grade event with his score of 79/nett 42 points.

Michael Davey took out the C Grade event with a total of 38 points.

Other good rounds were shot by Nick Gray, a regular in this column with 71/nett 40 points, Harry Elyasie 72/nett 38 points and Darren Grayson who signed for 72/nett 38 points.

A final countback score of 35 points made the prizemoney cut.

Jason Tivendale won that night’s twilight event by a countback from Lou Milner with 23 points.

A huge field of 169 presented on Saturday where Matt Allen won the A Grade event with his 75/nett 40 points and David Zaffarese took out the B Grade event with 42 points.

John Milkins won the D Grade event also with 42 points, while Ryan Stark won the C Grade event with his 40 points.

Damien Hammond scored a rare eagle on the par-four fifth as well as landing a pair of birdies on the par threes.

Back to last Sunday now where the club paid tribute to its good late friend Paul Wheeler for the Garfield Plate where a field of 108 lined up.

Harry Elyasie took out the A grade award with his round of 72/nett 39 points whilst Paul Hobson from Morwell won the B Grade event with 37 points and Greg Meldrum from Maffra won the C Grade event also with 37 points.

The Gross winner was Tim Ford from Morwell playing off +1 with his score of 68.

The pair’s event was taken out by a ‘booming’ Harry Elyasie and Bob Calderara with a score of 106 points.

The rainfall total for 2025 came in at 710mm which is the lowest amount in the last five years; the course is now bone dry with bone hard fairways.

Good Golfing to all our members and visitors for 2026.
