Collection started for essentials

A LYNBROOK woman whose husband was caught up in the devastating fires in Marysville is on a mission.
Gloria Edward’s husband, Andrew, was working at the bakery in Marysville on Saturday when fires swept through the town.
After hearing her husband’s stories from the weekend, Mrs Edwards has taken matters into her own hands and has started a “mission” to collect the bare essentials for those who are now homeless.
She has collected underwear and face washers from people around the Lynbrook area and is delivering them to Alexandra today.
“My husband does a bit of work at the bakery occasionally and after hearing his stories and the things that the relief funds are not providing I decided to do this,” Mrs Edwards said.
She set up two drop-off points in the Lynbrook and Berwick areas and collected new underwear, face washers and nappies.
“I have been hearing about the relief funds but heard that what people don’t have is clean underwear and face washers.
“People do not have washing machines so they need new, clean things.”
Mrs Edwards said her husband worked with others to save the bakery on Saturday.
“His is a small story. He is a survivor … there are plenty more who are not so lucky.”
