Festive racing spectacle

Pakenham Racing Club came alive on Saturday, 13 December, as thousands of racegoers gathered for the highly anticipated Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup Day. The event featured the prestigious Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup alongside the $1 million Supernova, the second leg of the Southside Slot Race Series.

With elite horses competing for top honours and prize money, spectators enjoyed a full day of racing, entertainment, and festive cheer. Christmas-themed marquees, premium dining, relaxed public areas, live music, and a variety of food stalls made it a perfect summer outing for families and racing fans alike.

Shawn Mendis, principal solicitor and founder of Shawn Mendis Lawyers, praised the event’s community spirit. “The Pakenham Cup is one of the largest events in the Southeast region. Coming on board as a sponsor, and hosting our own race, Shawn Mendis Lawyers Race, has been wonderful,” he said.

Mendis said the turnout was impressive, with an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people attending.

“The weather was beautiful, and the horse racing spectacular. It’s a great day for the community and everyone involved in the racing industry—owners, breeders, and locals,” he added.

He also highlighted the festive spirit within his own team: “We hosted our office Christmas party at the races. Many of our staff were experiencing the racecourse for the first time, and it’s been a fantastic way to celebrate the season together.”

The Ladbrokes Pakenham Cup Day once again proved to be a major highlight of the Southside social calendar, combining thrilling racing with a vibrant community atmosphere.
