CARDINIA WATERS BOWLS
Both Midweek Pennant teams secured strong victories on a day when both sides played at home; an event that will not happen again this season.
It was an incredibly special day for another reason when two rinks from side two scored the perfect “eight” score.
The score of eight does not happen that often and two happening in the same game is rare.
Side one played Burden Park and faced a strong side despite their lowly position on the ladder.
With a strong westerly wind blowing it took time for both teams to settle.
At lunch Cardinia Waters had a slender four-shot lead although they were behind on two rinks.
After lunch, the home side hit their straps and with all three rinks getting in front and staying there until the game finished.
Best rink was skipped by John Van Vugt, and included Kel Smith, Ashley Graham and Jill Naylor.
They led all day, and their result was a 25-15 win.
Ray Naylor’s rink was next best, and after being down early, caught up after scoring a six on end 13, and a five on end 21.
Ray played with John Moore, Dennis Patmore and Ron Seamer.
Keith Lewis’s rink waited until after lunch before surging to a five-shot win; with multiples proving the decider.
Keith played with Cathy Swinkels, Kerry Lewis and Paul Brindle.
This side remain undefeated after five rounds and are alone on top of the ladder.
This week they play third placed Edithvale at home.
On adjacent rinks Side two played Mordialloc and won by 21 shots, up on all three rinks.
The highlight of the game was the two ends of eight shots up.
One occurred on end seven, the other on end ten.
Players who are part of an eight score receive a badge from Bowls Victoria as a memento of the occasion.
These will be presented at the end of the season.
Best rink was Marie Stephenson, Robert Mitchell, Del Dance and Stuart Tokely, they won by 11 shots up, and that included their end of eight shots up.
Winning by eight shots was the rink of Ian Kennedy, Frank Basso, Therese Mitchell and Alan Hamilton.
They also scored an eight which occurred on end seven.
The other rink of Mick Knight, Len Judge, Peter Mitchell and Ian Kitt came from behind to win by five shots.
Side two are in second place on the ladder, and next week plays an away game at Cheltenham.
