GARFIELD GOLF

Garfield’s biggest ever Saturday field of 174 players took part in the opening round of the 2025 Club Championships; played in fine and mild conditions.

Matt Wouters was best for the day, winning the A Grade event with a great round of 75/nett 66, one shot to the better of Harry Elyasie who had a brilliant round of 73/nett 67.

Finishing third was Chris Davies, having a good consistent year with a round of 78/nett 69.

Damien Hammond won the B Grade event with a score of 79/nett 68, whilst John Hoare, also having a good year, won the C Grade event with his round of 80/nett 67.

A final score of 74 to a countback was the number needed to make the prizemoney cut.

Cameron Miller scored an eagle three on the first hole whilst a total of 18 birdies were achieved on the par threes for the day; the 11th giving up the four of those and the 13th being plundered on five occasions.

Chris Thorn, by his standards, opened up his title chase with an average round for him with 69/nett 72.

Jenny Sullivan cleaned up the lot for the ladies’ comp with a winning score of 78/nett 67 as well as a birdie and a pair of nearest the pins.

Thursday’s game of single par attracted a field of 107 punters.

The day started out in overcast cool conditions however at around 11am a huge dump of rain saw a number of retirements mid-round.

Ian Hopper broke a long run of outs by easily having the day’s best round of 77/+ 5 to get the A Grade win, two shots better than Cody Hoghton.
