A CRASH in Narre Warren has left five Pakenham residents, including a heavily pregnant woman and two children, nursing wounds in hospital.
Acting Sergeant in charge of Casey Traffic Management Unit Allen Inderwisch said just before 11am yesterday (Wednesday), a blue Holden Commodore travelling inbound on the Princes Freeway lost control when a tyre blew out causing the car to cross a grass divide and flip onto its side.
“A female passenger, aged 28, was trapped inside the vehicle upon arrival,” Sgt Inderwisch said.
“She was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.”
Senior Media Liaison officer at Ambulance Victoria Paul Bentley says one of the other female victims, aged 26, is seven months pregnant but is in a stable condition at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The male driver, 28, and two children, an 11-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy, were taken by ambulance to Monash Hospital.
Sgt Inderwisch said all passengers are believed to be from Pakenham. He said they were properly restrained and if they had failed to wear their seatbelts the results could have been tragic.
“It is important for everyone, especially children, to be properly restrained in a vehicle,” he said.
“Another important reminder for travellers is to make sure their vehicles are registered and roadworthy before they drive.”
Any witnesses are asked to call Narre Warren Police Station on 9705 3111.
