COMMONWEALTH Games fever will grip Pakenham on Sunday, 20 November, when the Cardinia Shire joins a statewide day of official warmup events.
Dubbed Cardinia Converge, the event will see townspeople from across the shire hold their own mini baton relay through the town before meeting at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham for a day of Gamesthemed fun.
The town relays will converge along four routes.
Route one is Upper BeaconsfieldBeaconsfieldOfficerPakenham.
Route two is EmeraldCockatooGembrookPakenham.
Route three is BunyipGarfieldTynongNar Nar GoonPakenham. Route four is Lang LangKooweerupPakenham.
Each town will hold a short relay along a main route through their township then hop on a free bus to pick up runners from other towns en route to Pakenham.
Cardinia’s Commonwealth Games Getting Involved Committee community representative Meredith Bowers said people of all ages and abilities can take part, either as baton carriers or just turning up and joining the free activities. Activities at the Cardinia Cultural Centre include a mini pistol range, field games and mini sprints, lawn bowls, table tennis, basketball, netball, a talk by a Commonwealth Games athlete, and a healthy eating/nutrition talk.
