Battery Energy Project team volunteers at Bunyip River and connects with locals

In September, seven members of the team from energy company RES came together for a hands-on volunteering day at Bunyip River, near the proposed Bunyip North Energy Storage Project site.

Guided by the Bunyip Landcare Group, the team planted over 170 native plants and trees, complete with tree guards, to help create vital habitat for endangered species such as the Southern Brown Bandicoot.

The day was a week before World Rivers Day the following Sunday — a reminder of the importance of protecting Bunyip’s waterways and deepening the team’s appreciation for the natural environment surrounding the site.

RES employees are offered dedicated volunteering leave, allowing them to participate in community projects like this one as part of their working life.

This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to fostering positive social impact and encouraging staff to actively contribute to the wellbeing of local environments and communities.

“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to be welcomed so warmly by the Bunyip community. Volunteering in and with our project community re-energised the team. It reminded us of the passion for the environment that drives our work every day.” Ava Powell-Larwood, Development Project Manager said.

Residents can meet the team and learn more about the Bunyip North Energy Storage Project RES at their information stall at the Bunyip Community Markets this October, inviting questions and feedback on the proposed development.

Sunday 26 October, 8.00 am – 1.00 pm. Site 50, Bunyip Recreation Reserve, 80 Nar Nar Goon – Longwarry Road, Bunyip.

RES is proposing to develop a battery energy storage system (BESS) facility near Bunyip, north of the Princes Highway, approximately 3km from Bunyip, in the Cardinia Shire.

The Project is designed to support the sustainable transition of Victoria’s energy network, enabling greater integration of renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels to maintain grid reliability.
