Tender awarded for construction of Youth Hub project

Cardinia Shire Council has awarded the tender for construction of the Youth Hub in Pakenham.

At the Council meeting on 18 August, Council resolved to appoint the tender for design and construction of the Youth Hub to Newpol Construction Pty Ltd following a comprehensive tender and evaluation process.

Newpol Construction Pty Ltd have extensive experience in the community, education and social infrastructure space and have undertaken a number of projects for local government.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik said he was pleased that this much-needed project was progressing.

“This is great news for the Cardinia Shire’s young people, and for the broader community,” Kowarzik said.

“Our intention has always been very clear, and we have remained committed to supporting our young people.

“Our growing population and the increasing number of young people in our shire reinforces the need for the new Youth Hub, to support service provision and expansion. A new Youth Hub will provide the wrap around support for the shire’s young people and their families into the future.”

Kowarzik said Council had undertaken an intensive and fair tender process to ensure the most appropriate tenderer was selected.

“Thank you to the tender respondents who all invested significant time and resources into this process. We extend our congratulations to Newpol Construction Pty Ltd and look forward to working with them and seeing our new Youth Hub come to life.”

Kowarzik said Council was grateful for the continued support of the State and Federal governments, and that Council remained committed to working with all levels of government, service providers and key stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for the shire’s young people and the wider community.

The existing My Place youth centre in Main Street will continue to operate to support the shire’s young people until the new youth centre is complete.

Council is continuing to seek legal advice on any appropriate action that may be taken by Council on behalf of the community against those responsible for the defects associated with the partially constructed Youth Hub, which was demolished earlier this year.
