GARFIELD GOLF
Saturday’s glorious sunny weather attracted a full-size field of 152 for a game of single stableford but as per normal for this time of the year playing to a handicap proved to be quite the challenge.
Best in for the day – and one of just four players to actually better their mark – and winning the B Grade event was Damien Martini with a total of 38 points.
Both Glenn Wells and Keith Edwards also played to their handicap with both gents scoring 36 points each, also for the B Grade event.
Ross Mitchell won the A Grade event with a solid round of 79/nett 35 points whilst Peter Kelly was victorious for the C Grade event, also with a handicap round of 36 points.
Aaron McQualter won the D Grade event with a miserly 31 points, while Ross Mitchell also scored a great eagle three on the par-five first hole
A final score of 30 points was good enough to feature in the run down.
Saturday’s raffle was taken out by a visitor from Monash/Churchill, Christine Stevens.
Dean Jones scored a pair of birdies on the 4th and 16th holes.
On Thursday, once again after the cold early morning cleared into a fine day, a field of 93 punters lined up for a game of single par.
Just seven golfers were able to beat their handicap which is the average event outcome for the winter season.
Equal best in for the day and winning the A Grade event was Daryl O’Grady with a score of +3, by a countback from Trevor Male.
Kevan McMillan, enjoying a good run of form, finished third with his round of +2 which could have been better as he had a chip for an eagle on the first but ended up wiping the hole.
David Turner, a visitor from Berwick/Montuna won the B Grade event with a round of +2.
Others to beat their mark were Marcus Crossley whom finished +2, Mat Van Der Horst +1 and Denis Rossetti, a visitor from Lang Lang, also finished with a score of +1.
A final countback round of -2 was the number needed to finish in the money.
Back to last Sunday for the round of the week where Luke Phillips won the B Grade event with a total of 42 points playing off his mark of 36.
Daniel Phillips won the A Grade event with a total of 38 points.
Mat Van Der Horst was dialled in for the par threes as he scooped the pool by getting the three of those but was unable to convert any to birdies ranging from 2.5m to 3m from the pins.
The next day, Monday, a field of 56 presented where Robert Harley had a great round by winning the A Grade event with a 76/nett 38 points whilst George Fatouros returned to the winners list, winning the B Grade event with his round of 37 points.
This Thursday it is a stableford event whilst Saturday it is a game of single par.
The rainfall total for July came in at 76mm compared to 2024’s 111mm and 2023s 31mm as we now find ourselves in a dry sunny winter spell.
