Lively Gippslander injured

Speedy Vic Country player Baia Pugh’s season appears over after she broke her collarbone on Saturday for Gippsland Power.

It’s a heartbreaking setback for the teenager, who has had a meteoric rise in 2025, her first full season of footy.

She has averaged 14 disposals and seven tackles in the Coates League this season, which led to selection for Vic Country, where she was able to replicate her strong form.

Pugh was again one of the Power’s better players on Saturday, with 16 disposals, nine tackles and a goal before injuring herself in a marking contest late in the game.

“When she plays inside for us, her ability to win the footy and stay in the contest and keep the ball locked in is one thing, but when she gets it on the outside, she makes good decisions,” Power coach Michael Farmer said of Pugh.

“It floored me when I found out this was her first year of footy because she plays with so much poise and her athletic ability is obviously first class.”
