Tigers end Lions finals hopes

Outer East Women’s Division 1 will crown a new champion this season after the premiership defence of Pakenham came to an end on Saturday.

The Lions went down by 47 points to Upwey Tecoma, leaving the Tigers to battle it out with Mt Evelyn, Olinda Ferny Creek and Healesville for this year’s title.

There’s still one round remaining in the season, but it will be the first time Pakenham won’t be part of finals action since its inaugural season in women’s football in 2018.

Reigning league best and fairest winner Jess Occhipinti kicked four goals for Upwey Tecoma, while Rachel Betteridge kicked the only six-pointer for the Lions.

In Division 2, Warburton Wesburn’s Scarlett Henderson became the first women’s player to kick a half-century of goals in a season, landing five telling blows against Thornton-Eildon to take her tally to 52 for the year.
