PAKENHAM teenager Charlotte McMillan will hold a fundraiser this Saturday as she gets ready to head abroad.
Ms McMillan, 19, can’t wait to volunteer at a South African high school for children with disabilities, but needs more funds before she departs Australia early next year.
The year 12 student said she plans to go to university, but wanted to get some life experience first.
“I didn’t want to go to uni straight away and I didn’t want to work for the year either,” she said.
Ms McMillan said she was excited when she was accepted for a GAP (Go Abroad Program) for six months of next year.
She said volunteering at the Port Elizabeth school would be a valuable experience as she looked to study nursing at Deakin University in 2009.
“I want to work with children down the track so I think this will be a good eye-opener.”
Ms McMillan’s fundraiser will be held at the Pakenham Racecourse function room on Saturday 15 November from 6.30pm.
A Buddy Franklin signed and framed jumper, a 2008 Essendon signed poster, vouchers and Holden gear are among the items up for grabs in the silent auction.
Tickets for the function are $35 which includes dinner. Drinks are at bar prices. For bookings, or to find out more information about the fundraiser, call 5940 5288.
