GARFIELD GOLF
The shortest day of the year provided a freezing cold start for golfers at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday with a stableford event attracting a great field for this time of the year of 141 punters.
Shivering through the early part of the morning was certainly worth it with the weather developing into a sunny day for the players who took to the course.
Coming out on top of the table was Glen Attwood who won the C Grade event with a nice round of 81/nett 40 points.
Mat Van Der Horst, who scored a round of 72/nett 39 points last Sunday – which included a great eagle on the first – came out on Saturday and won the A Grade event with another great round of 74/nett 37 points.
Troy Wilson had the best result for the B Grade field with a winning performance of 78/nett 38 points, while Mitchell Young got the D Grade result with his round of 37 points.
Just a total of nine players either played to or bettered their handicap for the day where a final score of 30 points was good enough to finish in the money.
Just the 13 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the fourth giving up six of those.
Daryl White enjoyed the par threes scoring a pair of nearest the pins on the fourth, just 430mm from the cup, and also on the 16th.
Nick Pellatt left the club smiling after winning Saturday’s Huge Monster Meat raffle.
Thursday was another brisk and cold day but never-the-less a good-size field of 108 turned out for the day’s stableford event.
Once again, the overall scoring was of an ordinary showing with just four players beating their mark. Mick Matthews certainly enjoyed the conditions, coming right away from the field winning the C Grade event with 39 points.
Darren Stanton had a good round winning the A Grade event with a round of 78/nett 37 points.
Steve Wallace, having a consistent run, had the day’s best B Grade round and accepted the victory in a three-way countback from Rob Coates and Chris Fowler; who all scored 33 points.
Speaking of Coates, Rob had a brilliant day last Sunday winning the A Grade event with the week’s best round of 77/nett 41 points…well played to you sir.
Heath Barclay, one of the club’s most consistent low marker golfers, had a pair of nearest the pins on Thursday on the eighth and 11th holes; converting one of those into a birdie.
Curtis Duffy captured a pair of birdies on the par threes for his round.
This Thursday is a game of single par whilst Saturday is once again a game of single stableford.
