Pakenham Library hosted a series of fully booked Indigenous cultural workshops on 9 April, offering a full day of hands-on learning and connection led by Skyla from Living Culture.
Held during the April school holidays, the event began with two damper-making sessions that brought participants together to experience traditional Aboriginal food preparation. The scent of baking filled the library as attendees engaged in the activity.
Following this, Skyla delivered an informative session on bush tucker and bush medicine, sharing cultural knowledge passed down through generations. Participants learned about the use of native plants for nourishment and healing, as well as respectful practices for gathering from the land.
The day concluded with an Aboriginal art workshop, where attendees explored the diversity of art techniques used across different Aboriginal Nations. Skyla introduced traditional symbols and encouraged participants to create artworks that reflected their own stories.
The event attracted a wide range of attendees, including education students and community members eager to deepen their understanding of Indigenous culture.
