Gembrook Primary School hosts colour explosion fun run to fundraise for new playground equipment

Rain didn’t dampen the spirits at the Gembrook primary school’s “Colour Explosion Fun Run” on Thursday 8 November, where students, parents, and staff came together to raise money for new playground equipment and select charities.

The event saw students enthusiastically tackle an obstacle course on the school oval, getting splattered with paint and water along the way.

“Our colour explosion fun run is very exciting,” said principal Stephanie Koble. “We’ve all come in our white shirts, old runners, and clothes that we’re happy to destroy.”

“As we go round the oval, we’ve got obstacles to compete, and our students get paint and water thrown at them,” said Ms Koble.

The aim was to fundraise for new playground additions, such as a cubby house, an outdoor shed with play equipment, and a sunlight arbour.

Support poured in from the community, with parents attending to cheer on their children.

“Anything over $1,000 is just delightful to us, and I think we hit that mark,” said Ms Koble.

The school demolished this goal, raising a total of $6,352.50.

Of that the school is keeping $3,557.12 towards playground equipment, and selected charities will receive a share of $2,794.88.

The students chose the causes they wanted to support and have chosen to plant 72 Coral and 55 trees, support 101 turtles, provide 282 meals to those in need and purchase 28 book tokens.

One student said, “It’s just fun for everyone—you get dirty. So it’s a really fun way of raising money.”

With everyone enjoying the fun despite the rain, the event highlighted the school’s dedication to improving their playground and supporting charity.
