Bounce back for Kooweerup continues

KOOWEERUP BOWLS

Kooweerup’s two Saturday teams continue to improve after starting the season slowly with two good wins in round six.

Division 6 made the journey down the Peninsula to play top team Rosebud Country Club and came home with a hard fought 66-62 win.

The ever-consistent rink of Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Cam Davey and Adrian Wheelan continued their recent form winning 25-17.

There was a small ‘hiccup’ for Steven Plumridge, Tim Katz, Tracey Hill and Mav Katz who tried hard but went down 13-25.

Some re-arranging in our third rink of Steven Jenkins, Daniel Price, Ian Richardson and Jim Jenkins did the ‘trick’ as they scored a 28-20 win.

Division 8 played our friends at Blue Hills who were third on the ladder.

After being level at the break Kooweerup managed to draw away on both rinks to win 41-26.

Trailing 10-14 after the first couple of ends after the break, Margaret Royle, Erin Price, Ric Lloyd and Bec Watts went on to a good 20-14 win.

The second rink of Jimi Watts, Jacqui Butera, Rex Alexander and Jason Bellink drew away from their opponents to win 21-12.

It was a struggle before the tea break – with Rex not looking well at all and everyone in the team showing concern and with ice packs and the like – but the old fella turned his game around to play a very good second half for his team.

Kooweerup’s Tuesday pennant team has continued its struggles with new surroundings; this time a visit to Baxter Village being the latest green that most had not played on before.

While the result was less than desirable, these games are a great learning experience for the team.

After a good start by two rinks, Kooweerup was finally defeated 51-75 with all three rinks suffering losses.

Never really in the game were Margaret Royle, Mary Masters, Gary King and Iain Caig who were comfortably beaten 16-30.

After a good start Jim Jenkins, Charles Poulsen, Ric Lloyd and Rex Alexander led for most of the game only to be defeated 18-24.

The third rink of Joy Jenkins, Jacqui Butera, Stephen Payne and Helen Ralph had a game where the lead changed on a number of occasions only to lose 17-21.

The club managed another round of Friday Triples, thanks to Garfield Bowls Club and perfect weather, with the winning rink for the day, with 34 points, being Roger Worden, Gerry Fuller and Bob Lamport (Garfield).

Right behind them on 33 points and claiming the runner up position was Joy Jenkins, Helen Ralph (Kooweerup) and Pauline Gray (Lang Lang).

Best first game was won by Hadyn McCarthy, Sharon Twite and Colleen Butterworth (Longwarry) with 19 points and best second game went to Ned Courtin, Ken Clifton (Pakenham) and Tina Courtin (Narre Warren) on 20 points.

Most ‘touches’ for the day went to Tina Courtin with 10.
