MIDWEEK PENNANT
This week’s two games – both against Edithvale – were about as exciting as bowls can get.
At Edithvale, Cardinia Waters side two played out an exciting draw at 57 shots each.
The home side won two of the three rinks to earn them nine points, while Cardinia Waters earned seven.
Steve Hale skipped the winning rink, easily winning 27-12.
At lunch they led 21-6, and just needed to cruise from there on, with Steve playing with Michele Bondfield, Cathy Swinkels and Therese Mitchell.
With the draw, side two jumped up the ladder to second place, and next week play Noble Park.
Meanwhile, at home, side one performed the most unbelievable comeback to beat a very disappointed Edithvale side.
After being well behind when the lunch bell rang, Cardinia Waters turned up the heat, (and the relentless wind), to catch up and take a narrow lead.
It was up to Ray Naylor’s rink to play the last end of the match to win.
And they were successful which awarded the home team a four-shot victory.
Ray played with John Moore, Jill Naylor and Paul Mercieca.
They combined well and was the only victorious Cardinia Waters rink winning 27-15.
Midweek side one is sixth on the ladder, and next week plays Narre Warren.
SATURDAY PENNANT
After four Saturday rounds our two sides are finding their way around the top four of their respective sections.
Last Saturday they recorded a win and a loss, with both sides playing away, and the reverse will happen next weekend.
Side one suffered a heavy loss to the new kids on the block, Frankston, although a second-half comeback saved them from an even worse result.
Down 41 shots and with one rink up at the break, they showed more desire afterwards to end up losing by 23 shots.
Keith Lewis’s rink flew the flag well, winning overall by seven shots.
They haven’t lost a game this season, and his four players head the players ladder.
Keith played with Bill Hite, Jim Barrie and Val Moore.
This round saw the four top teams play each other, and in the other game Mulgrave Country Club defeated Parkdale.
This allowed Narre Warren to replace Parkdale in the top four, which now reads Frankston first followed by Cardinia Waters, Mulgrave Country Club and Narre Warren.
This week Cardinia Waters play Narre Warren at home.
Playing on the outside green at Dandenong, side two had a most successful day winning on two rinks, and up by a total of 30 shots.
This win sees Cardinia Waters side two holding down second place just behind Willow Lodge.
Both teams have 48 points with the “Lodgers” ahead only on percentage.
The best winning rink was skipped by John Carr, who played with Peter Mitchell, Gary Bondfield and Therese Mitchell.
They won 27-10, winning on 14 of the 21 ends played.
Closely following was Marie Stephenson’s rink who won 27-11.
They also won 14 ends, but it was a fabulous seven up on the first end that catapulted them right into the game.
Marie rolled them down with Stuart Tokely, Sandra Wilde and Ron Seamer.
Next week side two play Berwick at home.
Berwick is four points behind Cardinia Waters, with both teams having won three from four games played.
THURSDAY NIGHT TRIPLES
Another chilly Thursday night saw 14 sides play round-three of the Summer triples.
Winners on the night were Steve Hales’ team by one point from John Moore’s team.
Ahead on the ladder is Steve Hale, followed by Jenny Edmonds, Ashley Graham and George Birnie.
