GARFIELD GOLF

A cool and windy week were the conditions with a few showers in play adding up to preferred lies being brought in to the equation at Garfield Golf Club.

After 36 holes of the 54-hole midweek championship John Coutts leads the way with a two-round tally of 72.

Coutts holds a three-shot advantage over Cody Fry and a further shot back to Kevin Sutton and Rob Morris; which sets up for an exciting finish.

See below for the leaderboard.

Saturday was a game of single par with a good-size field of 122 players taking part where, as per usual for these events, scoring or beating par proved quite the challenge.

A total of the 17 players were able to either beat or play to their mark for the day.

Darren Allen had the best of it by winning the A Grade event with a nice round of +4 playing off his handicap of 11.

Tom Fowler got the B Grade win on a countback from David Zaffarese with a total of +3, while Pat McDonagh got the C Grade victory with a round of +1.

Fowler made it a winning double for the week after winning on Thursday.

A final score of -2 was required to feature in the money.

A total of 17 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 16th giving up the five of those. Tym Davey finished square with the card playing off scratch whilst Clint Williams finished with -1 playing off his mark of four.

Trevor Male, a veteran returning to consistent form, had a winning double for the week by firstly coming out on Monday and winning A Grade with a score of 38 points then turning out on Thursday to also get the A Grade victory with 37 points.

He also jagged a pair of nearest the pins; so, well played to you Trevor.

A field of 92 presented for play on Thursday where a final score of 31 points was the number needed to finish in the money.

Tom Fowler took out the B Grade event with a score of 35 points whilst Nigel “Slug” Goldsworthy broke a run of outs to win the C Grade event with a total of 37 points.

Ray James finished up with a nice round of 33 points playing off his mark of eight.

Steve Bloomfield had the week’s best total by winning last Sunday’s event with a very nice total of 43 points playing off his handicap of 20.

Next Saturday, AFL Grand Final Day, is a game of single stableford and don’t forget there will be a comp event on the Friday before being a public holiday.
