A DISPLAY featuring indigenous artefacts that were found during the construction of YMCA Cardinia LiFE was launched at the centre on Tuesday.
The Kar Din Yarr display uses photography and sculpture to help convey the significance of the artefacts and historical and cultural information to visitors of the sports complex.
Senior Bunurong Elder Mervyn Brown travelled from Tasmania to attend Tuesday’s launch where he was joined by others from the Bunurong Land Council.
Artist Jenny Saulwick, who played a vital role in bringing the display to fruition, was also at the launch.
Mr Brown and Sonia Murray, the secretary of the Bunurong Land Council, raised the Aboriginal Flag before Cardinia Shire mayor Bill Ronald cut the ribbon to declare the display open.
Kar Din Yarr is the Bunurong word for ‘look to the rising sun’. This is also reflected in the shire’s name, Cardinia, and the rising sun in the council’s logo.
