Storm bounce back strongly

Cardinia Storm have bounced back into the winner’s column in commanding style, taking bottom-placed Monash University to the sword with a 5-0 victory in the Men’s State League South competition.

The Storm came out firing off the back of their first loss of the season, scoring three goals in a dominant first quarter, including two off the stick of the consistent Ben Albrecht.

Playing with aggression and keen to make a statement after monopolising the first half of the season, they were never threatened, with a Gareth Ventom hat-trick leading the way.

One of those goals came from a piercing tomahawk as he showed his flair on a brilliant day for his side.

“We wanted to respond this week – they had a patient structure we put a lot of pressure on,” he said.

“It was a really good performance.

“The midfield dominated – Jean-Francois Blignaut is linking up well and is hungry for the ball which is great to see for a young player.”

Meanwhile, the women had a walkover forfeit win against Knox.

The men are four points clear on top of the table, while the women are sitting in fifth spot, five points off the top four.
