Homelessness Week in Cardinia

Cardinia locals are encouraged to learn about and help support those experiencing homelessness at a range of local events and initiatives this week for National Homelessness Week 2024.

Running from Monday 5 August to Sunday 11 August, Homelessness Week is an opportunity to share and learn about the impact homelessness has on individuals and their families, and the solutions needed to end homelessness.

Myli Community Libraries, with support from Cardinia Council, is hosting three special Storytime sessions on Thursday 8 August from 11.15am to noon at Emerald Library, from 11am to noon at Pakenham Library, and from 2.30pm to 3.30pm at the Cardinia Mobile Library at Cockatoo.

Council’s Community Support team will be attending the Bless Collective community dinner on Thursday 8 August at Pakenham Hall, to host an information and craft table.

There will be mindfulness activities for clients and community to participate in through the evening, and resources on local support available.

Cardinia Leisure is raising funds for the Cardinia Foundation throughout Homelessness Week 2024! Cardinia Leisure will donate 50 cents from every hot drink (coffee, chai, tea, and hot chocolate) purchased at Cardinia Life throughout Homelessness Week.

If you see someone you believe may be experiencing homelessness, please do not remove or damage personal items, sleeping equipment or a makeshift shelter that may belong to them.

Rather, to ensure appropriate support and services are made available to them, you can contact Cardinia Council online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/HomelessnessReferral or by calling Customer Support on 1300 787 624.

For more information about available support, visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/CardiniaSupport
