GARFIELD GOLF

Bob Calderara, James Grant and Ian Nicholson provided the highlight of the week at Garfield Golf Club when all three players birdied the par-three 11th hole while playing in the same group.

Their Monday-magic provided a rare achievement, with this the first time this millennium that three players had done such a thing.

Well played gentlemen.

Best in for the day and getting the B Grade win was Barry Taylor with a round of 40 points, whilst Bob Calderara won the A Grade event with his score of 37 points.

A final countback score of 33 points or better was the number to finish in the money.

On Saturday a field of 125 presented for a game of single stableford which meant there were four grades up for decision.

Best in for the day, no make that the week, was Michael Jeffs with a huge 45 points to win the D Grade event.

Sam Butler was the next best winning the C Grade event with a score of 42 points, whilst Doug Amos beat his handicap by five shots to post an A Grade winning score of 41 points.

Brian Webster, currently the club’s most consistent player, won the B Grade event by a countback from Tony Grayson with a score of 38 points.

A final score of 33 points down to a countback was the score required to finish in the prize money.

A total of 14 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 13th giving up four of those.

Bob Calderara, having a great week, scored a pair of those on the 11th and 13th.

Once the fog and mist cleared out on Thursday it was fine and clear for the day’s competition which ended up attracting a field of 81 punters.

Tony Vallance was the best in for the day getting the B Grade victory with a score of 39 points, while a red-hot Brian Webster made it a double for the week getting the A Grade win with his score of 37 points.

A final countback round of 32 points was the total to go down the line.

Just six birdies were scored on the par threes for the day with Greg Macklin scoring two of those.

This Thursday is a game of stroke while Saturday is a game of single par.
