A number of sporting clubs across Cardinia have received a boost to get more people involved in local sport, thanks to the State Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

In Category 1, with grants of up to $1000 to purchase on-field playing uniforms, participation equipment for competitors and active participants, safety, injury prevention and first-aid equipment, local recipients included Avengers Cricket Club, Casey Cardinia Athletics Inc, Kooweerup Netball Club, Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club and South East Storm Netball Club.

In Category 2, providing grants of up to $2000 for projects which provide practical improvements to strengthen volunteering and officiating, Pakenham Lions Netball Club was the only recipient in Cardinia, while the Cardinia Piranhas Swim Club received a grant of up to $750 in Category 4 towards the costs of travel, accommodation and event registration fees for individual athletes selected to attend representative competition, selection trials or training camps.

Community Sport Minister Ros Spence said the grants created new opportunities for sportspeople on and off the field.

“We’re backing more clubs, volunteers and athletes across Victoria with grants to help them grow participation and serve their community in a way that matters to locals,” she said.
