Dore Road, the old dirt track between Pakenham and Nar Nar Goon that will soon be Pakenham East, has been finally sealed.
In the past week, the paving of the full 6 kilometers from Princes Highway to Bessie Creek Road was complete.
Construction began in March with lining, curb and signage works still to come.
This marks some of the initial work in upgrading and creating new infrastructure in the east of Pakenham, making way for the new suburb which will house approximately 20,000 new residents in the next few decades.
The milestone work saw Cardinia Shire Council use new innovative technology through ground penetrating radar technology to conduct environmental surveys and create a 3D model of the more than a 1000 trees and their roots above and below ground.
This work is estimated to have saved over 340 trees on Dore Road.
The council’s Manager Community Infrastructure Delivery, James Kelly said final works are being organised.
“Spray sealing was recently completed along the road, and asphalt works on the intersections at Seymour Road and Morrison Road are scheduled for the coming weeks,“ Kelly said.
“Council is currently working with the road designers and traffic engineers to determine the line marking and signage required for the newly sealed road.
“Once those plans are updated, work on the line marking, signage and guardrail replacement will begin.“
The sealing of Dore Road is part of the council’s Strategic Sealed Roads Project sharing in an overall funding of $25 million into sealing local roads.
