UNDER 12: Pumas 2 v DBA 0
Everyone got a game. The weather was great and the competition was fierce.
UNDER 14: Frankston-Pakenham 6 v Frankston Red 13
It was Derby Day in Frankston, and what a day it was! Molly started strong, pitching two innings, before Aiden came in to relieve. Great defensive plays by Logan at third base, Chloe at shortstop and Dane at second base and catcher. The team worked hard to put bat on ball with Tommy getting a nice hit then stealing around the bases and home. Logan also hit a single scoring 2RBIs and getting to third base on a forced error. It was a great game with both sides hitting well and making great defensive plays.
UNDER 16: Pumas 14 v Cheltenham Blue 0
Pumas started off aggressively with our first few hitters punching deep into the outfield and the balance of the lineup consistently having great at-bats throughout the game. Defensively we shut down Cheltenham Blue and did not concede a run. The team looked sharp and focused in a dominating 14-0 win to the Pumas.
SENIORS
A1: Pumas 0 v Dingley 15
Pumas A1 couldn’t keep up with top-side Dingley this week as they started scoring early in the game. Max Hunter was the starting pitcher for the Pumas throwing well for three innings. Hiro Goke and Dillan Collier each collected hits for Pakenham.
A2: Pumas 1 v Dingley 9
Pumas travelled to Dingley on a perfect autumnal day looking to avenge a first-round loss to them. Liam Hough was given the start on the mound and was firing early keeping the strong hitting opposition at bay while the Pumas were trying to gain some ascendancy on the scoreboard. With the game in the balance late on, Dingley were able to flex their muscles scoring heavily and putting the game to bed 9-1. It was a great battle by the young Puma team taking it right up to the undefeated Dingley for a large portion of the game before their experience came to the fore. Standouts offensively were Tristan Hill and Lachlan Collier.
C1: Pumas 10 v Dingley 1
Pumas took on second place Dingley this weekend. To open the scoring Brad jones got on via a single and after stealing his way around was hit in by Ray Pal. He was picked off before another single to Luke Billing who was hit in via Jason Rossit. That was all we could muster in the first inning. Brad Jones got the start for the Pumas and had two strike outs and a ground out to end the inning. Despite a lead-off single to Mick Sullivan the Pumas were quickly retired. Singles to Ray, Chris Appleby and Michael Elijah saw the lead extended to 5-0. A defensive pick off to first and a strike out kept the damage down, where a walk, error and a passed ball saw a run score for the home side before the second runner was tagged out at home plate to end the inning. With two outs, a shot through shortstop brought in two runners and we kept adding to the tally taking the lead out to 10-1 to end our third at-bat. Dingley was unable to add to the score with Brad in control. A quiet dig from the Pumas and a pitching change saw Bernie Tyers on the hill in the fourth, bringing two strike outs and a fly out to end the game. Pumas are undefeated after playing everyone once and a game-and-a-half clear on top. Hits: Ray Pal 3; Brad Jones, Jason Rossit and Chris Appleby 2; Luke Billing Michael Elijah and Mick Sullivan 1.
C2: Pumas 19 v Dingley 4
Pumas started well scoring two runs in the first inning. Greg McCormick scored on a single by Will Mayberry, who then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Travis Hough. Pumas then scored five runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. Wayne Porter, Scott Dale, Cooper Porter and Andrew Mayberry all contributed to the scoring. We then scored six more runs in the top of the fourth inning with Kyle Peck and Travis Hough helping to add to the tally. The scoring continued for the next two innings with the Pumas running out winners 19-4. Scott Dale earned the win for the Pumas giving up zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking two. Wayne Porter pitched one inning of no-run ball for Pakenham before young Will Mayberry came in to close out the game. In the batters’ box the Pumas stacked up a massive 20 hits in the game. Scott and Wayne were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected four hits for Pumas hitting back-to-back. Andrew Mayberry and Travis Hough each drove in three runs for Pakenham, while McCormick, Will Mayberry, and Cooper Porter each collected multiple hits. The Pumas had a total of eight stolen bases for the game.
D: Pumas White 5 v Bonbeach Blue 11
The D grade White team got out on the mound on home turf to play against Bonbeach Blue. With multiple outs this week we were able to put a team together and have Justin Mazurek as our starting pitcher who threw well and gave something for Bonbeach to swing at. It was a struggle to keep the top team at bay and eventually gave up the win to Bonbeach.
D: Pumas Black 1 v Bonbeach White 9
Pakenham Black hosted Bonbeach White; still on a high from their Derby win the week before. Anthony Clissold started us off on the mound, a strike out and a comebacker got rid of the first two Bonbeach batters in short order. A couple of errors in the field gave the opposition their first run of the day, before another strike out ended the dig and put us in to bat. Despite getting runners in scoring position, we weren’t able to capitalise on some loose pitching from their opener, a fly to right field and a putout at first base put us back out in the field without a run. Anthony kept the pressure on in the second, striking out his first batter, before again a few errors, got runners on base. We gave up another run before our infield tidied up their work and got the second and third outs. We continued to struggle to convert baserunners in the second and third digs, despite getting hits of our own. Bonbeach found their bats in the third and fourth digs adding five runs in total to give them a decent lead. The Pumas pounced on a change in pitcher in the bottom of the fourth, earning four hits and our first run of the game, before a third strike out finished our surge. Gregg Clutterbuck pitched the last two innings for Pakenham, slowing things down for Bonbeach, giving up four hits, two runs and earning two strikeouts for himself. We weren’t able to add to our tally before time and game was called. In the end Bonbeach White were victors 9-1 in game that had plenty of positives, highlighted by first game hits and catches to both Gedea and Jon, so well done team. Bring on Bonbeach Blue next week. WOMENS: Pumas 11 v Dingley 19
Pakenham Pumas women’s team took on Dingley on a foggy Sunday morning. Felicity, as the starting pitcher for the Pumas, gave Dingley something to hit, allowing them to score five runs. Holly and Chistine getting the first out of the innings with Felicity striking out the second for the game, Gedea throwing the third out to Chistine, bringing us up to bat. Dingley came out strong, not leaving much room for us to score and sending us back out to the field. Dingley slowing down on the bats to only bring in another three runs in the second dig. Our ladies took advantage of Dingley’s pitching change, which saw seven runners come home for the Pumas. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get back on top, leaving us with an 11-19 loss.
