GARFIELD GOLF
It is with a great deal of sadness that Garfield Golf Club announces the passing of long-time life member Paul Wheeler over the weekend.
Paul lived a long and full life and devoted interest in everything Gippsland golf where he was also a cherished life member.
Paul touched everyone’s life that he came across in a helpful way and was always positive in his outlook on life.
He will be very fondly remembered by everyone; not only at Garfield but by the Gippsland golfing community in general.

Saturday was the second and final round of the Four Ball Par Championships with a field of 54 pairs turning out in clear, sunny, late autumn weather.
Brian Webster paired with Colin Crowle to win the day’s event with a round of +6, one shot to the better of Dale Leggett and Peter Bogart who finished second on a countback.
The pairings of Des Kerr/Jim Accettura and Marty Atkins/Richard Perry also finished with a score of +5.
A final score of +4 was required to finish in the money which was achieved by some 11 pairs.
Rich Paton scored a pair of birdies on the 16th and 8th holes.
There was an overflow par event for those without partners on Saturday which was contested by a further 19 players.
Chase Lachlan, the man of the moment – losing six strokes off his mark courtesy of his previous round – finished up on top with a square round.
After two rounds it was the inform Richard Perry and Martin Atkins who came out on top for the title by a countback from the runaway round one leaders Peter Kelly and Brendan Williams to win with a score of +12.
Webster and Crowle finished third, also by a countback from Troy Wilson and Matt Allen with a final score of +10.
Thursday was a game of stroke which was attended by a field of 99 and was played in clear conditions before the arrival of a good 10mm of rain into Friday.
Heath Barclay had the day’s best round with an A Grade-winning score of 75, nett 66, one shot to the better of Dave Pateman and Andrew Rose.
A red-hot Brian Webster, the golfer of the week, won the B Grade event with an 87, nett 70 round, while Ron Parsons got the C Grade victory with a score of 90, nett 67.
A final countback score of nett 70 was the number required to finish in the money which was achieved by a further 23 players.
Matt Young, a visitor from Yarra Yarra, had a great round of 74, nett 70, while Darren Grayson also had a nice round finishing with a score of 75, nett 68.
Congratulations to one of our long-term members in Dave Lawler who scored a hole in one on the 16th last Sunday.
The veterans tour ventured to Moe recently for a game of single stableford and was attended by a field of 94 players with the overall scoring down on previous events.
West Gippy now goes into its annual Winter hiatus for the next four months with the next event to be played at Warragul in September.
There is an event at Lang Lang, where all are welcome to participate; on 3 June; names to John Scale asap.
The star at Moe and getting the A Grade win with a handicap round of 36 points was our very own John Blair.
