‘Rob Porter Recreation Reserve’ one step closer

The renaming of Officer Recreation Reserve has taken another step in honouring the late Rob Porter with the council endorsing the public consultation period to officiate it’s renaming.

Cardinia Shire Council has liaised with Carol Porter OAM and her two sons, Gavin and Geoff, on behalf of the family on a final name, the name supported is Rob Porter Recreation Reserve.

Officer Recreation Reserve Community Asset Committee was also contacted and approves of the name.

Geographic Names Victoria has been approached about the name and has confirmed that it complies with naming principles and has approved a time exemption.

“This is one of the very few items that I’ve had come across council that I think no one would ever debate,” said Cr Ross who moved the motion.

“A decision that is really easy to make, I know that in a hundred years time it will still be called the Rob Porter Recreation Reserve for all those to remember him.”

The council formally endorsed the name and authorised the name to go to community consultation.

The motion was carried unanimously.
