GARFIELD GOLF
It’s now peak golfing season at Garfield with cool crisp nights turning into fine, mid 20-degree days; and this becoming the norm.
A new event presented by Lifestyle Communities was held on Thursday with a generous field of 101 turning out.
It was a fantastic event and well supported by Lifestyle Communities whom handed out free golf hats, golf balls, sunscreen and water, with over $1000 in prizes up for grabs including a $300 Footjoy voucher for the overall winner.
The two course lunch was very well received with Kay and Cam doing a sensational member-support job as always.
Lifestyle Communities paid for the lunch as well as picking up the bar tab for the day, making the $20 entry fee exceptionally good value.
Everyone is now looking forward to the Spring Cup later this year.
The overall winner was Darren Grayson with a round of 41 points whilst Stephen Eddy finished second with a score of 40 points and Alex Green came third on a countback score of 38 points.
A final score of 33 points back to a countback was required to finish in the money.
Paul Govaars continued his hot form by winning the A Grade event by a countback from Frank Hyett with a handicap-beating round of 38 points.
Best in for the B Graders was Jason Hoghton, once again by a countback from Geoff Roberts, with another score of 38 points.
Kevin Sutton won the C Grade event with yet another round of 38 points.
Saturday was a Four-Ball Stableford event which was taken out by Brendan Pola and John Hoare with a great score of 51 points.
A final score of 43 points or better was the number required to finish in the money.
A total of 19 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 11th and 16th giving up four of each.
Monday was a single par event with Rob Nobelius getting the win with a score of +5 one shot to the better of Peter Lazarus and Warren Arnott.
The Easter Cup will be held over next week’s four-day weekend with four individual stableford events, with the winner determined by the total of a players two best rounds out of the four available.
Garfield’s annual tournament will run from Wednesday 17 April to Saturday 20 April.
Wednesday is a 4BBB event, Thursday is single stableford and Saturday is stroke.
Each event is run separately and members from other West Gippsland clubs are invited to play.
For all enquiries ring the club for more details.
A total of 3623 rounds of golf were played during February which is a daily average of 124 rounds which is an increase of 36 percent from the same time last year.
This is a clear indicator that our club is booming.
Garfield’s Handicap 1 pennant team has won all four matches and sits on top of the ladder whilst our scratch team had a narrow loss in its first round.
On Sunday 14 April and Sunday 21 April we will be hosting pennant matches so the course will be closed until 2.30pm.
On Sunday 5 May we will play host to the Pennant Final and the course will be closed for the day.
Last Friday our ladies hosted the annual Bowl Day, with Churchill Monash defeating Garfield by a countback decision with a score of 101.
