DROUIN GOLF
Golfers were out in force with a field of 146 players contesting the Stableford competition at Drouin Golf and Country Club on Saturday.
Phil Adams provided the undoubted highlight of the day on the par 5 seventh hole.
The second shot of Adams found its way to the bottom of the cup, giving Phil an Albatross and becoming just the fourth player at the club to do so.
The day only got better for Phil, winning B Grade with 41 points and claiming the Pro Pin to round out an incredible day.
In A Grade, Garfield visitor Harry Elyasie was the winner with 40 points, two shots ahead of runner up Bob Simpson with 38 points.
Phil Adams was the B Grade winner with his 41 points, while Shane Davidson finished runner up with 39 points.
The winner in C Grade was Rod Whitehead who scored 38 points, while Cameron Snell was the runner up on a countback with 36 points.
Ross Stewart led D Grade with 39 points, one clear of runner up Luke Smith with 38 points.
The top score of the day came in E Grade, with Lachy Taylor the winner amassing 43 points while Peter Britchford was runner up on countback with 39 points.
Damon Whaley collected the Super Six prize, scoring 18 points.

Target Hole winners on the 15th were Paul Matthews and Andrew Heagney.
Nearest the pins went to 5th Jamie Sparrow (Commercial Hotel), 8th Rod Whitehead (Sharkey’s Barbershop), 10th Dermott Berkhout (Siam Pesto Restaurant) and 14th Phil Adams (Pro Pin).
Wednesday
Unfortunately, the rain hampered last Wednesday’s Stroke round, with only eight players managing to complete their 18 holes.
Dave Cavanagh won with a score of nett 74, while Simon Caygill won a ball down the line on a countback with nett 75.
Nearest the pins went to 5th John Wolswinkel, 8th Rod Whitehead, 10th Rod Whitehead and 14th Simon Caygill.
Sunday
The Medley Stableford on Sunday was won by Darrell Birte with 40 points, while down the line balls went to Jack McConville 36, Glenn Rees 36 and Peter Manzie 35.
Matchplay Championships
The 2024 Match Play Championships were played on Saturday.
Shane Dwyer was triumphant in the scratch event over Kelly Belcher winning 2 and 1 over 36 holes.
A Grade handicap was also held over 36 holes; Kelly Belcher winning 4 and 3 over Glenn Rees.
B Grade Handicap was contested over 18 holes with Glenn Robinson winning 4 and 2 over Pete Daniel.
Drouin Garfield Challenge
The Annual Drouin Garfield Challenge was played on Saturday, hosted by Drouin, with 26 players representing each club.
The challenge was won by Drouin, with an average score of 32.69 to Garfield’s 31.73.
Upcoming competitions are Stableford midweek, Friday and Sunday.
Saturday’s competition is a Stableford Multiplier.
DROUIN LADIES
Round 6 of the Downtowner Cup was played on Tuesday 16 January.
Division 1 winner was Marg Purcell (16) with 34 points and runner up was Anne Neilson (32) with 32 points.
Division 2 winner was Sue Hatfield (33) with 40 points and runner up was Michelle Fairlie (29) with 36 points.
Down the line balls went to Kay Grieve 34, Dagma Forbes 34 and Judy Bibby with 33 points on a countback.
Nearest the pins went to: 5th Kay Feaver, 8th 2nd Shot Karen Adams, 10th Anne Neilsen and 14th Di Baskett.
On Saturday 20 January the Ladies Stableford competition winner was Valerie Crow (28) with a fantastic 40 points.
Runner up was Karli Van Der Horst from Garfield with 33 points.
This week will be the seventh and final round of the Downtowner Cup.
The official season opening day will be next Tuesday 30 January coinciding with the finals of the Summer Match Play competition.
Tuesday 6 February is the Royal Women’s Hospital 4BBB event.
