CARDINIA Shire Council staff are stepping up for a good cause.
Marcelle Bell, Urmi Buragohain, David Esmore and Carmen Perez will jointhousands of other community-minded people in the 100 kilometre Melbourne Oxfam Trailwalker tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday.
The annual event begins at Jells Park in Wheelers Hill and finishes at Wesburn near Warburton.
The 650 plus teams have 48 hours to complete the walk.
Proceeds raised through sponsorship help Oxfam deliver aid to overseas countries.
Mr Esmore said this was the fourth year the council had entered a team and was keen to support Oxfam’s charity work.
The four Cardinia Shire Council employees will be joined by Colin Chellew who works for Coles Myer.
The team has been training regularly and looks forward to the challenge.
“We’re hoping to finish in about 26 hours,” Mr Chellew said.
Ms Perez will be joined in her teamby three friends from Garfield who will walk under the team name of Just Because.
“We Can. They are hoping to finish in less than 24 hours. We’ve been training since October,” Ms Perez said.
“I did it last year as part of the Cardinia Shire Council team and I loved the challenge. It’s pretty full on but it’s good fun and for a really good cause.”
