KOOWEERUP BOWLS
Kooweerup’s Tuesday Division 4 team had a reversal of its game from earlier in the season against Main Ridge last week…scoring a 61-52 win.
Level at 11-11 after 10 ends the rink of Margaret Royle, Jill Roissetter, Bryan Walker and Mary Masters drew away from their opposition to win 25-18.
Unable to keep with their opponents over the second half of the game was the rink of Joy Jenkins, Cam Davey and Betty and Gary King, who were beaten 15-25.
A good run of winning seven ends in the middle of the game eventuated in a convincing 21-9 win for Jim Jenkins, Charles Poulsen, Pauline Gray and Helen Ralph.
Kooweerup hosted the final round of Friday Triples before Christmas on 15 December with the winning rink being Ken White, Graham Woolstencroft (Longwarry) and Noel Speight (Kooweerup) winning a closely contested day with 36 points and 36 shots up.
The runner up team, also with 36 points and 27 shots up, was Peter Bott (Pakenham), Col Finger (Longwarry) and Denise Hamilton (Phillip Island).
A close up third, also on 36 points and 22 shots up was Jason Leishout, Sharon Twite and Grant Pask (Longwarry).
Best first game was won by Jason, Sharon and Grant with 19 points and best second game went to Jim Jenkins, Rob Matthews and Pauline Gray (Kooweerup) on 18 points.
The most touches award for the day was won by Ken White with nine touches.
This competition will re-commence on Friday 19 January.
The Kooweerup club would like to thank all players, from far and wide, who play in this competition.
Merry Christmas and have a happy and safe New Year break.
The club would also like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors of this competition in Nutrien Harcourt Real Estate (Kooweerup) and David Bull Funeral Director (Pakenham).
The last round of Saturday Pennant was played before the Christmas break and Division 8 had probably the biggest win the club has had for many seasons defeating Mt. Martha 91-27.
Two rinks recording big scores and the third had a memorable draw.
They restricted their opposition to one shot after the 13th end whilst scoring 19 themselves.
Finishing off the comeback with a seven was the rink of Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Bec Watts and Daniel Price.
Not to be outshone was the rink of Steven Jenkins, Ian Richardson, Jimi Watts and Jim Jenkins, allowing their opponents only two shots after the fourth end while scoring 40, to win 40-5.
The third rink of Wayne Stevens, Rob Matthews, Rex Alexander and Cam Davey was involved in a tight game all afternoon and required five shots on the final end for victory; but scored four to have a 15-15 draw.
It has Division 8 on top of the ladder with four rounds to play and almost assured of finals action.
This is very pleasing as the team has three first-year players in the side.
Division 9 had the daunting task of playing third-place Village Glen and almost pulled of an upset going down 40-44.
In possibly a breakthrough win for the season was the rink of Tim Katz, Jacqui Butera, Mav Katz and Mel Alexander who, after a good start, recorded a 29-21 win.
The second rink of Margaret Royle, Erin Price, Peter Stevens and Mary Masters was not so lucky having a mid-game slump to lose 11-23.
This team also has three first-year players in its ranks.
Members of the Kooweerup Bowls Club would like to wish all readers a very Merry Christmas and Happy and safe New Year.
