Noah a 000 hero

By Callan Date
A THREE-YEAR-OLD Narre Warren boy has been hailed as a hero for dialling triple zero after his mother collapsed on Monday.

Paramedics said the quick thinking actions of Noah Opris saved the life of his mother, Rebecca, after she suffered an epileptic fit at their Murdoch Avenue house.

Noah used a mobile phone to make the call and told an emergency services operator that his mum had fallen, was asleep on the floor and bleeding from the mouth.

Police and ambulance officers were quickly dispatched to the house and took Ms Opris to Dandenong Hospital for treatment.

Noah and nine-month-old brother Zach, who was also home at the time, were cared for by police while paramedics worked on their mum.

Ms Opris has since made a full recovery and is now in awe of her son’s efforts.

“I am very happy and very proud of him,” she said.

The mother-of-three said she had taught Noah and her older child to call triple zero if there was ever an emergency.

“We have always taught them from a young age what to do.

“Since I discovered my epilepsy we have drilled it into them what numbers they should press,” she said.

Ms Opris, who described Noah as a very talkative and outgoing youngster, said her son had been rewarded for his actions.

“He is a very spoilt little boy at the moment.”

Narre Warren Constable Travis Cusack attended the house alongside Constable Heather Meredith and has also praised young Noah for his actions.

“Noah’s mum was unconscious and if he had not made the emergency call it could have been quite some time before she received medical treatment,” Const Cusack said.

“He and his young brother would have also been left unattended.”

Noah has since been recognised as an Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) Junior Triple Zero Hero.

“Noah’s actions highlight the importance of triple zero and how vital it is for parents to educate their kids about how to use this important resource,” Const Cusack said.

ESTA spokesman Wayne Debernardi congratulated both Noah and ESTA call taker Christine Wall.

“It is always a rewarding moment to have someone as young as Noah make a call to triple zero for such a great result,” he said.

“Our call taker did a great job and was keen to nominate Noah for an award, which will be part of our annual event later this year,” Mr Debernardi said.
