Drivers praised

POLICE have praised drivers for a safe weekend on Cardinia’s roads.
Although 36 drivers were detected for 51 offences during operation Barabbas, police were pleased that there were no collisions recorded in the area.
Eighteen of the 51 offences were speed related, while police intercepted seven unlicensed drivers.
Police also detected seven unregistered vehicles and put four vehicles off the road because of defects.
During the operation a man was arrested for deceptions which were being investigated by Mildura’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
Although there weren’t any drink-drivers intercepted as part of the operation, six people pulled over at a booze bus in Nar Nar Goon on Saturday night were found to be over the legal limit.
Senior Sergeant Alan McCarthy said: “We’re pleased that people got to where they wanted to go without having any collisions.
“The results are encouraging particularly the fact that there were no collisions as that was the main aim of the operation.”
