KOOWEERUP BOWLS

The green was buzzing with excitement at Kooweerup on the weekend with the club playing host to Rosebud Country Club and Frankston in Saturday Pennant bowls.

In a close game against Frankston in Division 9, Kooweerup won its first game of the season to boost the morale in the team.

The rink of Tim Katz, Cam Davey, Mav Katz and Mel Alexander continued their improvement losing 14-18.

Leading for most of the game; Margaret Royle, Arthur Giaccotto, Peter Stevens and Erin Price showed that a little experience goes a long way winning 21-15.

Well done Division 9 on a confidence-boosting victory.

In the game for top spot in Division 8, Kooweerup was defeated by Rosebud Country Club 47-60…the side’s first loss for the season.

Only in front for two ends, the rink of Wayne Stevens, Rob Matthews, Rex Alexander and Jacqui Butera were always in contention before losing 17-19.

The scores couldn’t get any closer than the 19-19 draw for Steven Jenkins, Ian Richardson, Jimi Watts and Jim Jenkins, who battled to get a point for the day.

Never in the game after a run of eight ends without scoring were Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Bec Watts and Daniel Price, who lost 11-22.

Kooweerup’s Division 4 Tuesday team hosted Mornington Civic in showery weather and, despite winning one rink and drawing on another, were defeated 53-60.

Behind for most of the game Trevor Kitchin, Margaret Royle, Jill Roissetter and Julie Walker lost their game 13-22.

It was a better day for the Jenkin family with the rink of Joy Jenkins, Betty King, Jacqui Butera and Steve Payne scoring one shot on the final end to draw 20-20.

The third rink of Jim Jenkins, Charles Poulsen, Rex Alexander and Joe Barlow had a topsy turvy game with both teams “stuck” on a score for long periods of time before winning 20-18.

Kooweerup held another day of Friday Triples competition on 3 November under cloudy conditions.

Winners for the day were Dale Smith (Drouin), Colin Finger and Rob Proctor (Longwarry) with 33 points.

The runner up rink was Jim Garnham, Geoff Barber and Roger Balment (Korumburra) on 32 points.

Best first game was won by Neville Kitchin, John Williams and Kevin Kitchin on 19 points and the best second game went to Ned Courtin, Ken Clifton (Pakenham) and Tina Courtin (Carrum) with 20 points.

Most “touches” was shared by Jim Jenkins (KWR) and Ned Courtin (Pakenham) with 10 each.
