Bitter breeze a battle for bowlers

Members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group were rugged up last week as they braved bitterly cold conditions for their weekly challenge…this time at San Remo Bowls Club.

It was definitely a winter’s day with a freezing cold breeze blowing up the green from the South Pole.

Luckily the rain stopped falling before the group started their game and the only other rain that fell was during the lunch break.

All in all it was a fairly good day for the bowlers.

There was lots of laughter across the green, both from the friendly banter, as well as the wind making it hard to control the bowls.

But, despite the tough conditions, there were not a lot of wrong bias bowls rolled down the rink today.

Once again a big shout goes to the wonderful organisers, Peter, Pauline and John, who make it so easy for all of the players to turn up and get on with the game.

As usual there can only be one winner, and this week’s winners both finished the day with 37 points which led to a countback to determine the winner.

This week’s winners on 37 points were John Nicholson (S), Ken Barnes (3), Bev Elliott (2) and Jenny Smith (L).

Runners up, also on 37 points, were Vern Elliott (S), Laurie Bell (3) and Max Williams (L).

Best One Game winners on 36 points were Phil Wright (S), Luke Monckton (3) and Peter Stansfield (L).

It was great to see Sue return from her medical break, and it was also great to see her husband Peter make a return following his long absence due to work commitments.

Next week the group will be attending Kooweerup Bowling Club to once again fight it out for team of the week.

The organisers hope to see as many players as we can.

If everyone could be on site by 10am, to make Peter’s life easier when arranging teams, that would be greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, stay safe and we’ll see you all next week.
